President Barack Obama Loves Indian Food

Did you know that before president Barack Obama married Michelle Obama, he did quite a bit of cooking.  Obama had an Indian roommate for a while who taught him how to make delicious Indian food. It was during those days that Obama fell in love with Samosas and Dal. Another interesting fact that you might not know about Obama is that he knows Mahabhartha tales which he learned from his mother who visited South Asia.

During their last visit to India in 2010, Michelle Obama enjoyed Indian food a lot as well. US President and the lady liked the platter of lamb dishes and kebabs named after Obama at the Bukhara, ITC Maurya’s fine-dining restaurant. The Obama Platter was a mix of north Indian and Mughlai delicacies like tandoori raan, tandoori salad, lamb kebab, murg khurchan, fish tikka, reshmi kebab, sikandari raan and tandoori aloo. For dessert, the choice was either “ras malai or kulfi” – dishes that tickled the Clinton palate too.

Obama like his predecessor Bill Clinton has an official platter named after him at the Bukhara. The Clinton Platter, named after Bill Clinton following his visit in 2006 and which costs around Rs.5,000, is an aromatic spread of mixed meats, lentils and oven-baked bread (Naan).
