Favourite Indian Dish of Deepika Padukone – Shrimp Curry

Deepika Padukone is one of the hottest stars of bollywood. This 5 feet 9 inch beauty with brown eyes has stolen the heart of Indian youth from her very first bollywood movie- Om Shanti Om in which she worked along with Shahrukh Khan. Bombay born but Banglore raised Deepika confesses that she loves to indulge in chocolates and sea food. One of her favourite Indian dish is Shrimp curry and I am happy to share recipe for this mouth-watering dish with you.

Ingredients:

Oil for frying
340 gms Raw Shrimp
1 large Onion chopped
1 tsp Cumin seeds/ Mustard seeds
1 tbsp Ginger/ Garlic
1-2 green chillies
2 large Tomatoes
1 tsp turmeric/ red chilli pwd / salt
4 tbsp Tamarind juice ( can be substituted)
Cilantro for garnish
1-2 tsp brown sugar
pinch of garam masala
1/2 cup of water (optional)

How to make authentic Indian Shrimp curry?

1. Add 1 tsp cumin seeds and black mustard seeds in hot oil. Once they splutter, add 1 large chopped Onion, ginger/garlic and green chillies.
2. Add salt ( as per taste) and let onions get golden brown.
3. Add tomato puree, turmeric, red chilli powder and cook for 5 mins.
4. Add 4 tbsp Tamarind juice ( can be substituted with lime juice or vinegar) and 1 tsp of brown sugar.
5. Add Shrimp and give it 7-8 minutes. Add water (optional) for thinner curry.
6. Add pinch of garam masala when curry is almost done.
7. Garnish with Cilantro and enjoy with rice, naan or roti/chapati.
