How to make Mushroom Matar (Mushroom Curry): Recipe for Mushrooms with Peas

Ingredients for mushroom mattar :

1 1/2 cups – Green peas (Matar) : I use frozen ones
200gms – Mushrooms
2 – Onions chopped
3-4 cloves of Garlic
2 tbsp Ginger (small pieces or grated)
(Ginger- Garlic paste is fine too)
3-4 – Tomatoes (chopped)
1 green chilli (chopped) (optional)
1 tbsp – Chilli powder
1 tbsp – Cumin seeds (or cumin powder)
1 tsp – Turmeric
1 tsp – Garam masala powder
4 tbsp – Oil
3-4 sprigs of Cilantro/Coriander for garnish
3-4 drops of lemon for taste
Salt To Taste

Preparation:
-Clean, wash and cut the mushrooms into medium pieces and chop onions/tomatoes/ginger/garlic finely.
-Heat oil in pan.
-Saute cumin seeds, onions, ginger and garlic, green chillies and salt till golden brown.
-Add tomatoes, chilli powder and turmeric. Cook till tender.
– Add cream (or water/milk)
-Add the mattar (green peas) and mushrooms and cook for 5 mins (or till the peas are fully cooked.)

Once done, enjoy this delicious mushroom curry with Naan, Roti or Rice.

  1. This recipe looks great and I hope to try it real soon, but how much milk/cream do you use? I can’t see the quantity mentioned in the recipe.

    1. Great question Jacqui 🙂 If you use cream, add 1/4 to 1/4 of a cup and if using milk ( 1/2 a cup to a cup perhaps.) this is only for 2-3 people. If you are making it in bulk, double the quantities.

    2. LOVE your mushrooms ! When pploee ask your children what’s your job, do they answer you’re a magician ? Seven kids … three possibilities : drink the while bottle, give each of them a drop of wine or change them into mushrooms 😀 Sorry sweet kids, I’m a silly girl !
